Help me shop: SHOES

The smart choice is to wear actual shoes while we walk around DC and New York on our vacation. I recently got some new workout shoes because mine had about two years worth of miles on them.

But part of me wants to drop the tourist look while we are there. The obvious giveaway that we are tourists is wearing workout shoes with shorts/skirts/dresses. It just doesn't work for me. I've modeled a couple of outfits I'm planning to wear with my workout shoes and it doesn't look terrible but I want to wear some cute flip flops dammit!

And cute flip flops under the "outdoor sandal" section on Zappos are NOT CUTE.

Look up the word Tourist in the dictionary and a picture of Teva sandals come up. PASS.
Does anyone know of any cute sandals/flip flops that I can order that would not make my feet/ankles/shins/calves cry out in pain while on vacation? I'm not going to wear 3-4" wedges around but a sturdy sandal might give my feet enough comfort to make it through the streets of NYC.

Thanks readers!!!

I have HORRIBLE SCREAMING foot pain when I walk around all day (like if I'm window shopping) in flip flops, and I feel your pain. Here's a good site (although admittedly, good shoes for you feet all kind of look like Tevas :( )

For flip floppy looking shoes, I've had a lot of luck with Fit Flops...they're squishy enough to absorb a lot of shock.

Or, I know they're CLOSE to sneakers, but what about a cute pair of Puma or Lacoste lifestyle shoes that you can slip a gel insole or arch support into? Something like this:

That you order large (or wide) enough to put some support into.

Good luck from one person with HUGE foot pain issues! :)

i dont really have any good suggestions because i would just end up in flip flops and endure the pain! but i guess i would also suggest some pumas. i have a pair of all white ones that go great with everything. i got them at nordstrom rack. i think pumas are super comfy. plus they go with shorts, capris, skirts ... everything (IMO). good luck on your search :)

Reef flip flops are seriously the most comfortable ones I have ever worn. I wish I had a pair in every color!

There is a place in Elk Grove that will custom fit your shoes. It's a little pricy, but the quality is worth it. I have a pair of shoes I've had for a little over a year and I wear them every chance I get.

Also, try doc martens. I've always had great luck with them. You just gotta break them in. You can find discounted "new" ones at Hope that helps! :)
