LASIK: Share what you know

I'm beginning to get annoyed at putting my contact lenses in every single morning. No matter how clean I think they are, 50% of the time they aren't comfortable to wear for the first few hours I have them in. With allergy season, my eyes are dry and that is not a good thing when you wear lenses.

I know quite a few people who have had LASIK and said it was the best decision they have ever made. I admit that I'm a little scared of it but I am going to make a consultation with a highly recommended LASIK center this week. They sent me some information including the prices but I have nothing to compare it to. This place charges $1,950 per eye. Is that normal? I don't want some bargain basement, discount LASIK but I also don't want to overpay.

If anyone can share their LASIK experience, I would be very appreciative.

I had LASIK in 2006. My eyes are now "better than perfect", which is exciting since I was previously blind in my right eye. I think, although I can't quite remember, tat it was $2000-$2500 per eye, although I had to pay for the more expensive and thus more extensive treatment because of how bad my eyes were. I got the surgery done in rural Pennsylvania, so I'm assuming it was cheaper than if you are getting it done in a city. Anyways, I'm so glad I got it done and it really wasn't a big deal. I didn't even need a sedative or anti-anxiety drug beforehand. Feel free to e-mail me (scs 1114 gmail com) if you have any specific questions I can answer!

I had LASIK done 2.5 years ago in Iowa, and it was $1,900 per eye for blade-free LASIK (in addition to the actual laser vision correction, they cut the flap with a laser instead of a blade). The process was pretty easy, and I'm definitely squeamish and nervous about anything medical. My only remaining side effect is an occasional halo effect around lights at night - I've read that eventually goes away for most people, but I'm not sure if it will for me.

I still am very glad I did it though - the minor side effect is worth it to me to not have to worry about contacts, watch TV in bed without fumbling around for glasses, and just wake up and be able to see. You can email me too if you want more details - mollyj717 at gmail. (from June 08 way back when...haven't "talked" to you in forever but I enjoy your blog!)
