Cough Drops: It's what's for lunch!

I am on the third day of a strange sore throat with no additional cold symptoms. A small runny nose and a lack of energy have been hanging around as well. So okay, I have other symptoms but I'm up and functioning....somewhat.

This sore throat is unusual. My throat feels dry and I have this deep cough that isn't persistent but it is annoying. I downed a third of a dose of Nyquil last night so I wouldn't drive my husband (and cat) into another bedroom because of course, lying in bed makes it worse. If I took an entire dose of the "'Quil", I would be passed out for two days. And loopy. In the words of Sweet Brown, "Ain't nobody got time for dat."

So I dug out the cough drops from our cough drop drawer (not kidding) and began to soothe my irritated throat. I have a lot of talking to do at work over the next two day and I seriously doubt I will be able to get through these presentations without hacking nonstop from dry throat syndrome. I was using Halls Warm-Ups in Apple Cider flavor. They are quite delicious and have a filling that cools and warms. Then I realized that they are 15 calories per drop and I had 3 on the 40 minute drive to work. I can easily have 20 of these in one day which means I would have to spend 40 minutes on the bike at the gym just to burn off COUGH DROPS. Oh HELL NO.

After a stop at CVS this morning, I realized that nearly all cough drops are "high" in calories so I'm just screwed. I picked up some Riiiiiiicooooooolaaaaaaaa Honey Lemon (cough suppressant!) which calls for a drop every two hours. I figure if I stop talking for a few hours, I should be able to get by with just drinking water.

Although I do anticipate making an awesome impression on a fairly new group of students this afternoon when I end up talking too much and experience a coughing fit where my eyes water and I start to gag. I'm sure they will fall in love with me after that happens.
